As the sun sets westwards so does the intended spouse.  She walks down Mulberry St, away from Canal, in fairly white sandals while having the occasional ‘before marriage’ cigarette.  She walks alone.  Walking at a pace that isn’t ‘normal’, but not fast either, almost as if she has a place to be but doesn’t want to make an appearance.  She exhales a smoke, thicker than usual as she passes by me.  Maybe she’s nervous, happy or a new member of the ‘run away bride’ committee, but a tear is seen running down, tracing her high cheeks. She holds the right side of her dress up as she uses her left hand to smoke leaving the end of her dress to either drag or float; almost like her marriage. Photo created by Paul Chin of Lavish-Livez.

Ufuk.  That’s not a swearing remark but the name of the great designer behind the label BENSON.  Being that his collection mostly revolves around men and their hunting jackets, Ufuk surprisingly creates magnificent womenswear and the way he plays with the colors is commendable.  The way I see it is, color-blocking made easy.  A woman who is always on the go right after her morning coffee can simply throw on any combination of pants and top from BENSON and look elegant yet playful.  Ufuk showed us how easy it was simply by blindly picking up a random top and a pair of pants from the rack to his left and combining them.  It was very interesting to see how excited he was about the womens line; He seemed more relaxed when showing us the womens collection from the mens. rolando-santana: It’s interesting how people work, some excel under pressure and others work better off alone.  We as people work differently, in fact no two minds are a like.  So as I stand across the showroom looking at Rolando, I can’t help to think what’s going through his head.  If I were to stand on top of his cranium, open ‘the window’ and look into his brain all I would be able to see are shapes, numbers and thoughts of “which music should I start the show with” and “which should be the opening dress”? It’s 8:40 P.M, 2 weeks away from our fashion show and Rolando sits at his desk sketching away, trying to squeeze in a few more designs in.  He’s totally zoned in and blocks out the ruckus of sounds of the sewing machine, scissors cutting or the chatter between the interns. It’s 8:40 P.M and we got work at 6:00 A.M.  Help us!
